Types of washes for technical fabrics
Currently, there are two regulations at European level that indicate the washing and drying processes of technical garments. These are EN6330 standards for domestic washes and EN15797 for industrial washes. All garments and/or fabrics that are certified must be washed under one of these two regulations.
In the case of the EN6330, it indicates 3 possible types of washing machines, 6 drying procedures, as well as the counterweights to be used depending on the composition of the garment, the quality of the water and the possible detergents and their dosage depending on the washing machine used.
In this regulation there is no indication of what type of washing machine and/or dryer to use in the case of technical fabrics, so it is very important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions in the technical sheet to maintain the garment well.
At LENARD TECHNICAL FABRICS we have fabrics certified under EN6330, some washed at 40ºC and others at 60ºC, depending on the reference, the fibres, the application for which they are intended… and with the type F tumble drying system.
On the other hand, the EN15797 tells us different types of washing, as well as the type of detergent to use, the type of bleach and antichlorine (if the garment allows it), as well as the load of ballast to be added in the washing machine and the quality of the water.
In the case of technical garments with fiber mixtures, method 8 must be done, which indicates that the washing temperature should be 75ºC with a duration of 20 min, followed by 3 rinses of 3 min with a residual humidity between 35 – 40%. For drying there are two options: dryer (procedure A) or tunnel (procedure B).
The fabrics manufactured by LENARD TECHNICAL FABRICS and certified under this EN15797 standard, mostly follow the conditions of Method 8 Procedure B.
On another occasion we will talk about the washing and drying pictograms for each standard.
We take this opportunity to say that soon one of our fabrics, due to market requests, will be able to be washed under EN15797.
