UNE EN 863:1996

STANDARD UNE EN 863: 1996 PUNCTUARE RESISTANCE

  • PRINCIPLE
  • PROCEDURE
  • RESULTS

PRINCIPLE

Puncture resistance is expressed as the maximum force required to punch the sample at a specific speed.

  • 4 samples must be taken for testing with a minimum diameter of 50 mm.
  • The testing apparatus is the CRE type tensile testing machine according to EN 10002-2
  • The test punch must be made of steel with a minimum hardness of 60 HRC and with the dimensions described in the standard.
  • The jaws will prevent the specimen from slipping during the test. They must be made up of two flat steel plates at least 10mm thick with a hole in the centre of 20 ± 0.5mm and 4 fastening bolts.
  • Specimens must be conditioned according to ISO 2231 (temperature 20 ± 2 °C and a relative humidity of 65 ± 5%)

PROCEDURE

  • The specimen must be placed between the two jaws with the outer surface exposed to the punch.
  • Tighten the bolts to prevent slippage or deterioration of the specimen.
  • Place the specimen and jaws on the testing machine.
  • Advance the punch towards the specimen at 100 ± 10mm/min. If the punch fails to penetrate the specimen after a 25 mm movement, the test is considered completed.
  • Record for each test the maximum force (N) to drill the specimen.

RESULTS

The arithmetic mean of the maximum force obtained in the 4 specimens (N) will be reported.
