FASTNESS TESTS

PART X12: COLOR FASTNESS TO RUBBING

  • DEFINITION
  • APPLIANCES

DEFINITION

This part of ISO 105 specifies a test method to determine the color fastness of textiles to the action of rubbing in a dry and wet state.

Samples of the textile are rubbed with a dry cloth and a wet cloth. The machine provides two combinations of test conditions through two different sizes of rubbing pin: one for pile fabrics; another for dyed fabrics or fabrics with high-coverage prints.

APPLIANCES

  • To carry out the test, a Crockmeter, an evaluation camera for visual inspection and a gray scale are required. A white cotton rubbing fabric 50mmx50mm (ISO 105-F09)
  • The measurement conditions of the camera: Illuminant or light D65, angle of incidence 45º.
  • The test specimens are conditioned for a minimum of 4 hours at 20+/-2ºC and 65+/-4% Relative Humidity. The dimensions of the specimens are 50x140mm.
  • Using Crockmeter, at the base the 50x180mm tissue test tube, 50x50mm cotton rubbing fabric anchored with a 16mm diameter cylinder pin. Force of the 9N equipment on the specimen to be tested. 20 cycles are performed. Specimen in the longitudinal and transversal direction of the tissue to be verified (10 in one direction and 10 in the other direction) to a length of 104 mm.
  • The fabric is dried at room temperature
  • A visual inspection of the color discharge on the cotton rubbing fabric is carried out using the ISO 105-A03:2019 gray scale (1 very pronounced discharge, 5 Null discharge).
