DEFINITION

This international standard specifies the performance for garments made from flexible materials, designed to protect the user’s body. Its features are applicable to garments that can be used in a wide variety of situations, where the use of clothing with properties for limited flame propagation is necessary and where the user may be exposed to radiant, convective or contact heat and molten metal splashes. For head/foot protection, include leggings, hoods, and boot covers, and exclude socks and boots.

Protective clothing must meet the requirements in the following table and with at least one of the codes B, C, D or F.

  • The outer pockets of jackets, trousers, overalls and dungarees, except for side pockets below the waist that do not form an angle of more than 10° with the side seam, must be covered by flaps at least 20 mm wider than pocket openings
  • Lap seams on the outside of garments should face down and be secured in this position.
  • Closures must be designed with a protective flap on the outside of the suit. The maximum distance between the button holes should be 150 mm.
