DEFINITION

This standard specifies the minimum requirements for reusable and limited use chemical protective clothing. Limited performance chemical protective clothing is intended for use in cases of potential exposure to light spray, liquid aerosols or low volume and pressure splashes where a complete barrier to liquid permeation is not required. Covers chemical protection suits (type 6) and partial body protection suits (type PB[6])

  • Covers both chemical protection suits (type 6) and partial body protection (type PB6).
  • Type 6 and PB 6 protective clothing is the lowest level of chemical protection.
  • Chemical protective suits (type 6) cover and protect at least the trunk and extremities. Partial body protection with equally limited features (type P6) covers and protects only specific body parts.

RESISTANCE TO LIQUID PENETRATION

  • The construction of the seams must prevent the penetration of liquids through the stitches or other components of a seam and must not prevent the slippage of the liquid.
  • Type 6 suits should also be considered from the result of the full suit spray test.

SEAM STRENGTH

  • According to EN ISO 13935-2, a seam resistance of at least less class 1.

FEATURES FOR A COMPLETE SUIT

  • They must meet the requirements of the EN 13688 standard.
  • For garments of type 6 they must meet the requirements of the 7 movements and for garments of type PB 6 they must not be tested with the light spray test.
    • Kneel down
    • Climb up the vertical ladder
    • Place your hands at chest level
    • Kneel on the right knee
    • Extend arms fully
    • Stand with your feet apart
    • Kneeling same as movement 4
  • The spray test method based on EN ISO 17491-4 must be modified in some points.

MARKING

  • Type 6 for chemical protection suits and type PB 6 for partial protection.
  • Requirements according to EN13688
