OBJECT

This standard specifies the minimum requirements for high-visibility protective clothing capable of visually signaling the wearer’s presence, intended to provide wearer perceptibility in hazardous situations in any daytime condition and under headlamp lighting in the dark. Performance requirements are included for color and retroreflection, as well as for minimal areas and for the placement of materials in protective clothing.

REQUIREMENTS

TEST METHOD TEST STANDARD DESCRIPTION REQUIREMENTS
DIMENSIONAL STABILITY EN 13688 % shrinkage after wash cycles according to the fabric manufacturer’s instructions.

By default 5 cycles minimum.

DETERMINATION OF WATER VAPOR RESISTANCE AND THERMAL RESISTANCE

If rain protection sort according to

EN 343

ISO 11092 Hot plate, climatic chamber Ret ≤ 5 m2Pa/W

If Ret > 5 m2Pa/W –> calculation Water Vapor Permeability Index (Imt) Imt = (Rct * 60) /Ret –> Imt ≥ 0.15.

GARMENTS

DESIGN

    • High-visibility clothing is grouped into three classes. Each class shall have minimum areas of visible materials incorporated into the garment.
    • The garment will be made with high visibility material on all sides. It is important that the self-reflective bands surround the torso, legs and sleeves.
    • A class 3 garment must cover the torso and must have at least sleeves with retro-reflective bands or long legs with retro-reflective bands, if not both.
    • At least (50 ± 10%) of the minimum visible background material area must be on the front of the garment.
    • There are specific requirements depending on the type of garment
