EN6330:2022 DOMESTIC WASHING AND DRYING PROCEDURES FOR TEXTILES TESTS

DEFINITION

This standard specifies domestic washing and drying procedures for textile tests. The procedures are applicable to fabrics, garments or other textile articles that are subjected to appropriate combinations of household washing and drying procedures.

METHOD

WASHING PROCEDURE:

  • Obtain a total dry load of 2kg (test tubes + counterweights). Test tubes should not constitute more than half of the wash load.
  • Apply pre-mixed and dissolved detergents:
    • Powder detergent base
    • Sodium tetra hydrated perborate
    • The optical brightener tetra acetylenes diamine
  • Washing temperature and time according to table 1:

DRYING PROCEDURES:

  • Procedure A Line drying
  • Procedure B Drip drying
  • Procedure C Dry Flat
  • Procedure D Flat iron drying
  • Procedure E Drum drying

DRUM DRYING PROCEDURE:

  • Same load tumble dryer
  • The measurements of the material are determined, and drying continues so that the final humidity of the load must be ± 2% for synthetic textiles, or ± 5% for cellulosic textiles.
  • The temperature of the air evacuated from the drum is regulated to a value that does not exceed 70 ºC for normal fabrics and 50 ºC for delicate fabrics
  • The use of the drying speed a for the estimated time of the final test cycle, can give an underestimated value of 5%, hence the need to repeat the operation to compensate for the decrease in duration. It is suggested that if the environmental conditions of temperature and relative humidity are reasonably consistent, the drying rate b is determined only once, but in case of variation, the drying rate should be determined under the new conditions.

The estimated cycle time according to this method corresponds to 2% of the actual time measured using an appropriate scale. This level of precision is adequate considering the necessarily arbitrary nature of the overdrying factors of fibers of different nature within the same load.

SAMPLES

  • Reference detergent without phosphate ECE-98 (without optical brightener).
  • Reference detergent without phosphate IEC-A (with optical brightener).
  • ATCC Liquid Detergent
  • Phosphate-free powder detergent with enzyme-free optical brightener
  • JISK 3371 detergent without phosphates and with optical brightener
  • Liquid detergent for wool/silk in delicate processes
  • AATCC 1993 detergent with and without optical brightener
  • Water whose hardness, determined according to ISO 6059:1984, does not exceed 0.002% (20 ppm), expressed as calcium carbonate.
  • Type A machine: front-loading, horizontal drum washing machine
  • Perfectly marked in the form of a table to determine the shrinkage in the warp and weft of textiles (The number of test pieces to be subjected to the washing and drying procedures specified in this international standard is determined based on the purpose for which the material is used). is tested.)
  • COUNTERWEIGHTS: (See table G.2)

For samples of 51% or more cellulosic fibers, the Type I cotton counterweight should be used.
For samples with 51% or more synthetic fibers, the type III polyester counterweight should be used. For samples that are made from other fibers or blends, Type II Polyester/Cotton Counterweight or Type III Polyester Counterweight may be used.

RESULTS

For all textiles, the end point should be between 0% and -3% of the conditioned mass: (see table 1)

End point =____________Load mass after total cycle_____________________ – 1 x 100%

                                                              conditioned dough
